Hi everyone and welcome to a particularly spooky blog.
I thought I'd leave this blog a bit later this week just to let you know that I have released a new cover. This time of 'Tubular Bells' by Mike Oldfield. Better known as the theme song of 'The Exorcist'. I've always really liked the piece, so I thought this halloween I'd do my own version.
The piece is actually made of of two repeating bars of 7 and 8 which, being a fan of odd times, was interesting to mess around with. First of all, as it has a bar of 7, it skips the last beat of the bar, which lead to some pretty interesting off-beat patterns which I used on the drum kit. Another key point of the original is that it's built around the one main theme. So having to make a more familiar structured song was another factor I put into play.
The song took me roughly 10 hours to record, mix and master over the space of 2 evenings and a morning. I recorded it in the exact same fashion I always use. Instrument - Zoom G2.1u - Logic. The Guitars, bass, Piano and Tubular Bells. Were recorded in real time where as everything else was sequenced in the final product.
Take a listen:
I think I'm going to end the blog here, so don't forget, as always, if you want to discuss anything about the cover please feel free to put a comment below the blog or on the YouTube video. I hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween.
See you in the next blog,
Dan.
